DubsDownunder - A Celebration of the Classic VW in Australia and Abroad |
|
For as long as we can remember, old VWs have played a significant part in the lives of our friends and family. Today, just in the family alone, we can boast 8 vehicles between us in various states of roadworthiness. The oldest is a 1957 Kombi and the youngest a 1990 T3 transporter. In between you'll find a few more early Type 2s, an early Beetle and a one of the first Aussie Fastbacks. When we travel to VW events, both in Australia and in Europe, we're always happy to report that the collector's bug is still as contagious as ever and there's still no known cure! However, what amuses us is the way Australians still enjoy their VWs as a means of daily transport, preferring instead not to wrap them up for the winter like the Europeans. Australian VWs that have served us well as a means of transport continue to do so, just as they have always done. What was good then is still good today, despite the vast majority missing the creature comforts of air-conditioning and power-assisted this'n'that. If ever we copied the Europeans, we should be tucking our V-Dubs away in the summer... This website will be a celebration of the classic work-horses, the Bugs, Kombis and Ghias that you'll see being driven in and around Australia and as trophy hunting weekenders at the Australian show scene (spit and polished to the max to preserve them for another decade of exclusivity and drag strip weekend action!). If you own one, whatever its condition, and would like to see it on this website, drop us a line with some pics and we'll upload your VW. It doesn't have to be a million bucks, just a classic V-Dub Downunder! Keep on V-Dubbin' Paul & Gill Site's under construction. 'VWs' and 'Technical' has been started.
